Stone, MS Five People Crash Death Obituary: Cherish Resident Has Died In A Fatal Crash

STONE COUNTY, MS — A devastating crash in northern Stone County on Friday afternoon has left the community in mourning after five people lost their lives in a collision involving a van and a freight train.

Authorities have identified the victims as Ryan C. Peterson, 26, a corrections officer with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office; Demarcus Perkins, 23; Kristina Carver, 45; and her two daughters, Emley Chamblee, 22, and Sarabeth Chamblee, 20. Their deaths have sent shockwaves through the community, as family members, friends, and colleagues grieve an overwhelming and sudden loss.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 1 p.m. at Pump Branch Road, just off Highway 49. Investigators say the westbound van collided with a northbound freight train and was pushed approximately 500 yards down the tracks due to the force of the impact. The severity of the collision left little chance for survival for those inside the vehicle.
