MUSKOGEE, OK — The Muskogee community is grieving the loss of 38-year-old Elio Hernandez, who was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, in the 900 block of North K Street.
According to Muskogee Police, officers were dispatched to the area around 4:00 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered Hernandez in a front yard with an apparent gunshot wound. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the incident stemmed from a physical altercation that took place inside a residence involving Hernandez and another individual. Authorities allege that the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jesus Garcia, left the home after the confrontation but returned shortly afterward. Upon coming back, Garcia reportedly opened fire on Hernandez, who was outside with several other people at the time.
Following the shooting, Garcia fled the area before officers arrived. Law enforcement officials have described him as armed and dangerous and are actively working to locate and apprehend him. Authorities are urging anyone who may have information about his whereabouts to contact 911 immediately and to avoid approaching him.
