The Lansing community is mourning the tragic loss of Gmo Person, 28, who passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, following a fatal vehicle crash in Putnam Township. Gmo sustained critical injuries during a police pursuit involving a stolen 2024 Range Rover and was later pronounced deceased at the University of Michigan Hospital.
Earlier that day, a deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office located the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 96 near Mason Road in Marion Township. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen on March 21 from East Lansing, exited the freeway and fled southbound on D-19 at speeds of approximately 120 mph. At the intersection of D-19 and Swarthout Road, the vehicle attempted to overtake a 2023 Ford F-350, driven by a 55-year-old resident of Pinckney, who was making a left turn. The stolen vehicle struck the front of the pickup truck before colliding with a stopped 2021 Ford F-450.
Neither occupant of the stolen vehicle, including Gmo, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drug use are still under investigation as contributing factors. The driver of the F-350 was not injured. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while authorities conducted their investigation. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hamburg Township Police Department, Pinckney Police Department, Putnam Township Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.
Gmo Person is remembered by his family, friends, and community for his warmth, laughter, and the love he shared with everyone around him. Though his life was tragically cut short, his impact on the lives of those who knew him remains deeply felt. His sudden passing leaves a profound void, and he will be deeply missed by his loved ones, neighbors, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
May Gmo’s memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and may his family find comfort during this difficult time.
